Applications Due September 17, 2026
St. Mark Community Church is currently accepting applications for the open pastoral position. All applications must be submitted by 9/17/2026.
Dear Prospective Candidate,
Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Thank you for your interest in serving as the Senior Pastor of St. Mark Community Church of Vallejo.
After prayerful consideration, discussion, and review of our pastoral search process, the Pastoral Transition Team has made the decision to reopen the application process for the position of Senior Pastor. Our goal is to provide a fair, thorough, and prayerful process that allows us to consider qualified candidates as we seek the individual whom God is calling to shepherd and lead this congregation into its next season of ministry.
We recognize that selecting a Senior Pastor is one of the most important responsibilities entrusted to a church. Therefore, we are seeking more than an individual who can preach on Sunday mornings. We are seeking a shepherd, teacher, servant-leader, administrator, and visionary who will faithfully care for God's people and help prepare St. Mark for the future.
As you prayerfully consider this opportunity, we ask that you carefully review the following expectations and responsibilities of our Senior Pastor:
The Senior Pastor must be firmly committed to the Word of God and the teachings of the Apostles. The Pastor must be willing to faithfully preach, teach, and defend biblical truth, even when that truth may be contrary to the prevailing culture.
The Senior Pastor must faithfully preach the whole counsel of God's Word, carefully explaining the meaning of Scripture and applying biblical principles to the everyday lives of those entrusted to his care.
The Senior Pastor should be an intercessor for the congregation, consistently bringing the needs of the church before God and modeling a strong prayer life both publicly and privately.
The Senior Pastor is an example to the congregation and should demonstrate Christlike character, integrity, humility, faithfulness, and righteous behavior. This also includes modeling confession and repentance when appropriate, recognizing that every believer remains dependent upon the grace and mercy of God.
The Senior Pastor is expected to provide compassionate pastoral care to members of the congregation. This includes counseling, hospital visits, home visits, prayer, spiritual guidance, and support during times of illness, crisis, and personal difficulty.
The Pastor should also encourage and train other ministry leaders and members of the congregation to participate appropriately in caring for those in need.
The Senior Pastor should walk compassionately with individuals and families experiencing loss. This includes providing spiritual support, prayer, counseling, and the hope of the Gospel during times of bereavement.
The Pastor should also be prepared to officiate funerals and graveside services and provide Gospel-centered messages that offer biblical hope and encouragement.
The Senior Pastor should ensure that the widows of the church are remembered, respected, supported, and cared for according to biblical teaching. The Pastor should encourage families, ministries, and members of the congregation to participate in providing meaningful care and fellowship.
The Senior Pastor must be willing to address sin according to Scripture and provide biblical leadership concerning church discipline when necessary. The purpose should always be repentance, reconciliation, restoration, and spiritual growth.
The Senior Pastor should demonstrate patience and perseverance with members who may be struggling, discouraged, spiritually immature, or experiencing difficult seasons.
The Pastor should help create an environment where people are encouraged to grow in their relationship with Christ rather than being easily dismissed because of their struggles.
The Senior Pastor should intentionally identify, mentor, train, and develop current and future leaders within the church.
Leadership development should be an ongoing priority so that St. Mark continues to develop the next generation of ministers, ministry leaders, teachers, and servants.
The Senior Pastor will provide spiritual leadership, direction, accountability, and oversight for all ministerial staff.
The Pastor should establish regular opportunities for communication, mentoring, training, and development and should conduct or arrange workshops for ministerial staff that encourage continued biblical, spiritual, leadership, and ministry growth.
The Senior Pastor will provide leadership and officiate, as appropriate, important church ordinances and ceremonies, including:
Baptisms
Christenings/Dedications
Weddings
Funerals and Homegoing Celebrations
The Pastor should ensure that these services are conducted with biblical integrity, compassion, dignity, and in accordance with the practices of St. Mark Community Church.
In partnership with the appropriate church officers, ministries, boards, and leadership, the Senior Pastor will provide oversight and direction for the overall administration and operation of the church.
The Pastor should promote effective communication, accountability, organization, cooperation, and responsible stewardship while respecting the established governance, policies, bylaws, and decision-making processes of the church.
The Senior Pastor should prayerfully develop, communicate, and help implement a clear biblical vision for the future of St. Mark Community Church.
This vision should honor the church's history and foundation while preparing the congregation for future growth, discipleship, ministry development, evangelism, and service.
The Pastor should be able to unite the congregation around a shared vision while seeking God's direction through prayer and the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
The Senior Pastor should have a heart for the community and encourage St. Mark to be an active presence beyond the walls of the church.
The Pastor should promote evangelism, community outreach, partnerships, and ministries that address the spiritual and practical needs of the surrounding community, encouraging members to demonstrate the love of Christ through both word and action.
The calling to serve as Senior Pastor is both a sacred privilege and a tremendous responsibility. We seek a servant-leader who demonstrates spiritual maturity, biblical knowledge, integrity, humility, compassion, administrative leadership, and a genuine love for God's people.
We also seek a Pastor who understands that healthy church leadership requires collaboration. The Senior Pastor will work with the church's ministerial staff, officers, trustees, ministry leaders, and congregation to accomplish the mission and vision God has given St. Mark Community Church.
Our desire is not simply to fill a position. We are prayerfully seeking the shepherd God has prepared for this flock.
If, after prayerful consideration, you believe God is leading you to pursue this opportunity, we encourage you to complete the application below by the stated deadline (9/17/2026). Please understand the application has limited space. If you have any answers that are more than one line, please fill in the space with “Please see Resume” or attach a sheet with your detailed answer. Your application will be reviewed prayerfully and confidentially by the Pastoral Transition Team.
Thank you for your willingness to consider serving St. Mark Community Church of Vallejo. We pray that God will guide you, guide our congregation, and make His will clear throughout this process.
May the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
In His Service,
St. Mark Community Church of Vallejo
